The 1838 Seated Liberty Dime belongs to one of the earliest years of the Seated Liberty series. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, it features Liberty seated upon a rock holding a shield and liberty pole, while the reverse carries a simple wreath surrounding the denomination. The Small Stars variety is an important early subtype that is highly regarded by collectors of early American silver coinage.
