Fighting around the Mediterranean - on the sea, in the air and on the land - characterised the experiences of Australian forces during
1941. Australians fought in campaigns in North Africa and the Middle East, and in Greece and Crete. On the home front, too, 1941 saw a key development: the establishment of women's services. These services grew to encompass ever more technical work, upending assumptions about women's roles in wartime. The coins in this set commemorate these major 1941 milestones. They are stories of Australian bravery against a determined foe at a time when the outcome of the war was uncertain.
