Acclaimed Kalkadoon artist Chern’ee Sutton beautifully depicts her traditional Country in the Mount Isa region of Queensland. Flowing lines symbolise footprints traversing the land, while circular motifs represent community gatherings. The design incorporates elements such as:
• A coolamon brimming with bush food and medicine.
• Storytelling traditions focused on the stars, animals, and culture.
• The life-giving sun shining over essential waterholes, rivers, and the rugged mountains of Kalkadoon Country.
• The emu, which holds significance as the artist’s personal totem.
Chern’ee Sutton has received numerous awards and honours. She has been a Queensland Day Ambassador for the Arts and a Queensland Reconciliation Awards Ambassador, and her work is held in collections nationally and internationally.
Issued as Australian legal tender, the uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed card. Also included in the reverse design are ‘P125’ mintmark, signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary, and the 2024 year-date.
