Issued by the Perth Mint to commemorate the arrival of the new millennium, these coins formed part of Australia's Millennium silver coin series. The 2000 coin celebrated the transition into the year 2000, while the 2001 issue continued the commemorative theme with an intricate design inspired by ancient Egyptian symbolism.
Both coins were struck to proof-like quality from 99.9% fine silver, with a weight of 1 troy ounce each and a face value of $1 Australian dollar. The accompanying certificates state that each issue was limited to a maximum of 30,000 coins.
