UNC 2012 GOLD POPPY AUSTRALIAN TWO DOLLAR $2 COIN REMEMBRANCE DAY FROM ROLL
Released to honor the memory of those lost in all wars, the Royal Australian Mint's 2012 Remembrance Day $2 commemorative coin stands as a significant numismatic achievement of 2012.
This coin holds the distinction of being Australia's inaugural circulating commemorative in the two-dollar denomination and the pioneering piece to feature colorization. As the application of color was still in its experimental stages, only a limited quantity of coins received this treatment, elevating them to the status of a "key date" for avid coin collectors.
The colorized versions are commonly referred to as "red poppies," while their non-colorized counterparts are known as the "plain poppy" or the "gold poppy," with the term "gold" denoting their color rather than the metal composition.
At the center of this coin is a poppy flower, internationally recognized as the symbol for Remembrance Day, a solemn occasion commemorating those who sacrificed their lives in World War One. In a special edition, a limited number of coins feature a red and black coloration on the poppy.
The background of the central circle is adorned with microtext repeating the words "REMEMBRANCE DAY" in 11 rows, while the words "LEST WE FORGET" in microtext, presented in inverse order, grace the same area in another 11 rows.
Encircling above, the coin proudly displays the face value, "TWO DOLLARS," and around below, separated by two small poppy flowers in the rim, the inscription "REMEMBRANCE" completes the poignant design.
