Item Description:

Issued during the reign of Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II, this 1789 Half Liard circulated in the Duchy of Luxembourg shortly before the upheaval of the French Revolution. Copper coinage such as this was used for everyday purchases by ordinary people, making surviving examples with clear detail increasingly desirable. The simple yet elegant design represents the late Austrian Habsburg administration of Luxembourg before major political change swept across Europe.
