2004 $5 150th Anniversary Eureka Stockade PNC Mintage 62,000
The coin and stamps in this PNC commemorate the 150th anniversary of Australia's only civil uprising, at the Eureka Stockade in Ballarat.Â
The Eureka Rebellion was a series of events involving gold miners who revolted against the British colonial administration during the Victorian gold rush. It culminated in the Battle of the Eureka Stockade, which took place on 3 December 1854 at Ballarat between the rebels and the colonial forces of Australia.
This is the very first PNC to include a coin struck by the Perth Mint. It is also still the only Perth Mint $5 coin to feature in a PNC.
The postage stamps - consisting of two Eureka Stockade stamps ($2.45 and 50c) - have been cancelled with a specially prepared ink rendition of the Southern Cross appearing on the Eureka Flag, with the wording ‘FIRST DAY OF ISSUE 29 JUNE 2004 BALLARAT VIC 3350’.
