Item Description:

As part of the Allied effort to defend against Nazi Germany’s invasion of Greece in April 1941, Australian forces served in hard-fought campaigns on mainland Greece and Crete. Though the Allied defence was ultimately unsuccessful and the Allies were forced to evacuate, Australians formed connections with Greeks and Cretans that are reflected in the nations’ enduring friendship.

This striking coloured 20c coin commemorates the 85th anniversary of the Battles of Greece and Crete. The colour print is inspired by Greece’s national colours.
